Paralleling the current explosive growth of the MMO market, the Rough Trade Gaming Community is dipping our toe in TERA. Guild leader and typically-Rough Trade saucepot guild leader John tells us a bit about himself, RTGC in TERA, and his plans for RTGC 10 at GaymerX in San Francisco this summer.
Bigheadben: John, tell us a wee bit about yourself and how you got hooked up with RTGC.
John: Well, let’s see… I’m a 5’7″ blonde bombshell who enjoys being bent over anything at waist-height. I also enjoy long walks on short piers. No, just kidding. I’m actually 5’10″, naturally auburn hair, and I prefer to do the bending. I live in SoCal. Beautiful sunny SoCal, where I can go from the beach to the mountains to the desert in about an hour.
I started with RTGC back in World of Warcraft on the Proudmoore server, though I wasn’t very active back then. I spent a long time playing on my own for a while, and then joined back up with the fabulous folks at RTGC when Star Wars: The Old Republic launched. After TOR became the biggest disappointment to me since Super Mario 3, I decided to follow the RTGC freaks on over to Guild Wars 2. Stuck it out there for a while, but it just wasn’t my type of game, so I hopped over to TERA and decided to save them from a life of solitude! Or, you know, whatever.
Bigheadben: Will we see you at RTGC’s 10th Birthday Party @ GaymerX this August in San Francisco? And what costume will we see you in?
John: You’d have to get an injunction to keep me away, and even then, I’d like to see them try, haha. Yes, I’ll be hanging out at the RTGC booth as often as I can get away with it, and I’ll definitely be dressed up! In addition to this being our 10th birthday, it is also our fourth National Meat Up, and the first one I can make it to, so hells-to-the-yes! As far as my costume, I won’t tell you what or who I’m going to be, but let’s just say everyone should stop by the RTGC booth on Superhero Saturday to find out. And let’s not forget that discount on RTGC t-shirts that day too, for anyone dressed up!
Bigheadben: Let’s check your nerd cred. You are a big comics fan, yes? Which characters are your favs and why?
John: Oh, big time! I’ve been a HUGE Marvel geek since I was a kid, though recently I’ve started to see the beauty of DC as well. My favorites, in no particular order, are: Jean Grey/Phoenix, Emma Frost, Nightcrawler, Captain America, Deadpool, Robin, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn. Why? Because I can enjoy the different aspects each brings to the table.
Bigheadben: What do you like about TERA? And give us your prediction on how well this game will fare and last in the increasingly competitive MMO market.
John: What I love about TERA is how intuitive and action-oriented it is. Everything you do requires you to be invested. No more tab-target, macro-spamming laziness. Oh no. You have to actually play! Since going F2P, I think TERA has done so much better than anticipated. With a huge increase in players and a set up similar to GW2 (as far as the shop goes), I think it will last a good deal longer than I would have previously expected when I played beta. Though, I think Elder Scrolls Online is gonna give it some troubles, haha.
Bigheadben: And finally, the important stuff. Cut or uncut? Top, bottom, or vers?
John: Oooh, frisky. Cut top. Yeah, I know, I look like a twinky bottom boy, but you’ll find out the truth later.
